Interview: Benoît Grenot, CEO, Baikowski

Benoît GrenotCeramics Expo got the opportunity to talk to the CEO of Baikowski, Benoît Grenot, about his role, what sets Baikowski apart and how the company is helping to reduce environmental impact through custom solutions.

Benoît holds an Engineering degree from the Paris School of Mines (France) and has over 20 years’ experience in international business and full responsibility for industrial companies. He spent 18 years in the ceramic materials branch of the Saint-Gobain Group, mostly as GM of various refractory businesses in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2015 he has been General Manager of Baikowski.

Please tell us about your current role. What are your key focus areas and responsibilities?

My main area of focus is to define and implement our global growth strategy; manage the teams through our business transformation; and provide our customers with new solutions and customized products in increasingly diversified markets.


What inspired you to join this company?

What inspired me to join Baikowski is its well-known expertise and diversity of applications in highly technical markets, as well as the agility of a medium-size company with manufacturing plants on three continents. It creates a unique environment for growth.


What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?

Since its formation over 100 years ago, Baikowski has occupied a unique place within the specialty chemicals industry, characterized by the company’s capacity for innovation and agility.

What are the key opportunities and challenges your company faces at present?

Baikowski, like all other companies, faces challenges in this industry. We must keep up with the ever-changing trends and understand the market driving forces that impact Baikowski, and anticipate their effect on the global market.


Are there any new technology developments that you are working on at the moment? Can you tell us about them?

We are constantly developing new products that are fully customized to meet the design specifications of each customer. Baikowski has complete control over the material characterization process by way of: functional additives, controlled morphology (CMA product line), and spray drying, jet milling, ball milling, etc.

Our strength is the creation of new products to give you the best solution specifically designed for your needs.


What would you say most excites you about your role?

What most excites me about my current role is showing how Baikowski can be part of the solution for future growth innovations. Baikowski has talented people with a dedicated spirit to develop collaborative relationships with partners.


How do you think the industry will develop within the next five years? Can you tell us about the key trends emerging?

The predominant trend in all industries is to be cognizant of the environmental footprint that humans are making on the Earth. Baikowski is helping in this area by offering customized solutions in energy-efficient lighting and solid-state batteries for zero-emission automobiles. It is our goal to help push the boundaries for increased lifetime cycles, safety and performance.


What do you hope to achieve at the show this year, and what connections do you hope to make?

Ceramics Expo provides us with a great opportunity to meet with our partners and potential customers and to discuss business, as well as to keep track of market trends.

As an exhibitor, we appreciate the opportunity to develop relationships with current and prospective customers by having a close customer intimacy that will drive innovation for new products.
